Cell Body

The cell body is the part of a cell that contains the nucleus and surrounding cytoplasm exclusive of any projections or processes, such as the axon and dendrites of a neuron or the tail of a spermatozoon.

The cell body produces all the proteins for the dendrites, axons and synaptic terminals and contains specialized organelles such as the mitochondria, golgi apparatus, endoplasmic reticulum, secretory granules, ribosomes and polysomes to provide energy and make the parts.

The cell body includes a watery and salty fluid called Cytosol. It's a potassium-rich solution inside the cell containing enzymes responsible for the metabolism of the cell.
